You can't cancel a subscription

If the cancel option is hidden, broken or behind support that never answers, you can still cancel in writing. A dated message saying clearly that you are cancelling is your evidence, whatever the website does.

Send it to the contact address the company publishes, keep a copy, and note the date. If they later take a payment, that message is what you rely on.

Separately, check how you are paying. A card payment and a direct debit are stopped in different ways, and stopping the payment does not by itself end the agreement.

Cancel this with Feoh

What to gather first

  • The account email or username you signed up with
  • How you pay: card, direct debit or through an app store
  • The amount and the usual billing date
  • Any contact address, help page or in-app chat the company publishes
  • Screenshots of the broken or missing cancel option

What to do

  1. 1Screenshot the cancellation page or the error, so there is a record of why you could not do it there.
  2. 2Send a short written cancellation stating the account details, that you are cancelling, and the date.
  3. 3Check whether you pay through an app store; if so, the subscription is usually managed in that store's account settings.
  4. 4Ask your bank to stop the direct debit or recurring card payment if the billing date is close.
  5. 5Ask for written confirmation the agreement is closed, and set a date to follow up.
  6. 6If a payment still goes out after the cancellation date, raise it as a formal complaint with your evidence.

Questions people ask

Is cancelling by email valid if the website won't let me?
A clear, dated written cancellation sent to the company's published contact address is evidence of what you asked for and when. Keep a copy of what you sent.
Can I just stop the payment at my bank?
Stopping the payment prevents further money leaving, but it does not automatically end the agreement, so the company may still bill or chase. Do both.
I signed up through an app store. Who cancels it?
Subscriptions bought through an app store are normally managed in that store's subscription settings rather than by the company directly.
